Rules & Regulations for Off-Road in Massachusetts
Western MA: The trails are challenging and only suitable for the intermediate to expert rider. With the exception of Tolland State Forest, all riders must obtain a riding permit by calling (413)358-2172 or emailing pittsfield.atv-permits@state.ma.us.
Beartown State Forest: Approximately 16 miles of trails suitable for motorcycles or ATVs
October Mountain State Forest: Approximately 30 miles of trails suitable for motorcycles or ATVs
Pittsfield State Forest: Approximately 14 miles of trails suitable for motorcycles or ATVs
Tolland State Forest: Approximately 15 miles of trails for motorcycles registered and equipped to ride on both on-road and off-road. Many trails merge with public ways where off-road use is prohibited. Not suitable for ATVs
Southeastern MA: These forests are open to motorcycles only through the partnership of the Pilgrim Sands Trail Riders and King Philip Trail Riders who help maintain the trails for all visitors.
Freetown-Fall River State Forest: Approximately 25 miles of single track trails for the expert rider. Motorcycles only.
F. Gilbert Hills State Forest: Approximately 8 miles of single track suitable for the intermediate to expert rider. Motorcycles only.
Wrentham State Forest: Approximately 8 miles of single track suitable for the intermediate to expert rider. Motorcycles only.
Franklin State Forest: Approximately 8 miles of single track suitable for the intermediate to expert rider. Motorcycles only.
